Tutor questions, answered
Who are you looking to hire?+
Patient, communicative tutors with strong math fundamentals and real teaching instincts. Most of our tutors are experienced professionals, but we hire anyone who can break down hard ideas clearly and meet students where they are.
Do I need prior tutoring experience?+
Formal experience helps but isn't required. What matters most is subject mastery and the ability to explain it well — if you have that, you're already most of the way there.
Do I need to live in the US to apply?+
Yes. Tutora only hires tutors who live in the United States. If you're based outside the US, we're not able to consider applications at this time.
What's the time commitment?+
You set your own availability. Most tutors take on 3–10 hours a week, scheduled around their classes or work. There's no minimum hours requirement.
How does pay work?+
Hourly, paid out on a regular cycle. Rates depend on the level you teach (K-5 through AP Calculus) and your experience — we share the exact numbers during the interview.
Are sessions remote or in-person?+
All sessions are 1-on-1 and fully online. You'll need a quiet space, a reliable laptop, and a webcam. We provide the digital whiteboard and curriculum materials.
What's the application process?+
Submit the questionnaire on this page. If it's a fit, we'll reach out within a week to schedule a video interview, which includes a short teaching demo. From there, we'll match you with students.
Will I be matched with students automatically?+
We hand-match each student to the tutor whose subjects, schedule, and teaching style fit best — you'll never be assigned a student you can't actually help.
What support do I get from Tutora?+
A full curriculum and worksheet library. You'll also have a point of contact for student concerns, scheduling, and anything else that comes up.
