We only collect what we need to match your student with a tutor, deliver sessions, and stay in touch with you. We don't sell your data and we don't use it to advertise.
1. What we collect
When you use Tutora, we collect:
- Contact information you submit through our consultation, contact, or tutor application forms: parent name, email, phone, and anything you choose to share in a message.
- Student informationyou share with us: the student's first name, grade, course of interest, goals, and any context you want their tutor to know.
- Payment information when you purchase a package. Payments are processed by Stripe. We see only the last four digits of your card and the billing email. We never see or store your full card number.
- Session content created during tutoring, including notes, worksheets, and digital whiteboard work.
- Basic site analytics like the pages you visited and your approximate location, used only to understand how the site is performing.
2. How we use it
We use the information you give us to:
- Match your student with a tutor who fits their grade, goals, and learning style.
- Schedule and deliver sessions, including communicating with you between them.
- Process payments and issue refunds.
- Reply to your inquiries and improve our service.
- Send important account updates, like booking confirmations or session changes.
We don't send marketing emails to your student. Any updates we send go to the parent email on file.
3. Who we share it with
We share information only with the people and services that help us run Tutora:
- Your tutor receives the information they need to teach effectively: student name, grade, course, and the goals you shared.
- Stripe processes payments. See Stripe's privacy policy.
- Resend sends transactional emails like booking confirmations and refund notices on our behalf.
- Vercel hosts our website.
- Law enforcement, only when legally required.
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it with advertising networks.
4. Children's privacy
Tutora is intended to be set up by a parent or guardian on behalf of a student. We don't allow children under 13 to create accounts on their own. The parent/guardian provides consent for the limited student information we collect (typically first name, grade, and learning goals) when they sign their child up.
If you believe we've collected information about a child without proper parental consent, reach out through our contact form and we'll delete it.
5. How we protect it
Information you submit through our forms is transmitted over HTTPS. Payment data is handled directly by Stripe, which is PCI-compliant. We limit access to information to the people who need it to operate Tutora. No system is perfectly secure, but we take the basics seriously.
6. How long we keep it
We keep customer information while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward, typically up to two years, in case you return or have questions about a past purchase. Payment records are kept longer where required for tax and accounting. You can ask us to delete your information sooner.
7. Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct, or delete the information we have about you and your student. Submit your request through our contact form using the parent email on file so we can verify the account. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws like the GDPR or CCPA. We honor those rights for everyone.
8. Cookies
Our site uses a small number of cookies to keep the site working and to measure high-level traffic. We don't use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.
9. Changes to this policy
When we update this policy, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll email active customers so you have time to review it.
